Maria Montessori
She was born in Chiaravalle, Italy in 1870. She studied at the age of 14 years old Engineering, then Biology and graduated as the first woman doctor of Italy in 1896. Later she studied Anthropology and obtained a PhD in Philosophy.
Considering her studies in the medical field, her approach to education was more scientific. She was interested in observing children in their natural state and not as adults want them to be. Through this observation she created scientifically designed materials to respond to the needs of children and help them develop their potential to the fullest.
She argued that all children are intrinsically motivated to learn and absorb knowledge effortlessly when they are provided with the right activities and at the right time of their development. The main pillar of her educational method is the child's freedom within a structured and prepared environment.
